What a great day I had at Shauna Burtons west of Claresholm today...awesome ride, tasty food...and great people...who could ask for a better day ??? Last winter I took a HRM course and met some really interesting people....since then the group has been having tours/get togethers at some of their ranches.  This is the first one I have made it too...and am so glad I did.  Shauna's ranch is a beautiful place...lot's of native grass...few fences...and nestled right up in the porcupine hills.

It always good to get out and talk about each others operations....there is so much info. to be shared...and it  makes me motivated to get after some of our own projects we have going on here.  We had a great ride (about 20 of us !!!)...nice to just ride and look at the scenery for a change....no "work" involved ! Hopefully I can get everyone here next spring for a visit....we are trying to better utilize some of our grass in the north pastures...and I would love to have their input !!

The Best Laid Plans....

When we first got this website...I was so excited to have my own blog here.  I told Jeff that I was going to post ALL the time...just about what was going on around here.  Not that I was sure who would want to read it... LOL...still I thought it was a fun idea. (I might mention...that I am not a "blogger"...so this is all a bit new to me.)

Well...you know it goes....winter was long...cold and snowy..one of the neighbors here commented that it was the worst spring he had seen since 1969....we were calving in April/May...with -17 temperatures.....and plowing what I refer to as "cow highways" so the cows could get to feed.  The worst part for us...was that our trees were still full of six foot drifts from the winter.  It seems no matter where you were in the country...or in the U.S. for that matter...everyone was busy fighting a miserable winter.  Then it seems like we are back to breeding before I know it !! I am sure you all can relate...

So...needless to say...my enthusiasm...and promise to post "all the time" took a back seat to daily "ranch stuff".  I am hoping to post more this fall...the website has been on my mind lately...as we are getting show cattle in...and ready for the fall. I also have some exciting updates to add

For the first time in years...we did not A.I....we were lucky to have the oppourtunity to purchase a bull from Holdens...and have 3 sons we raised to use(a Harland, a Yankee, and a son of an excting young bull Big Gully Farms purchased from Colyers).  I am hoping to have updated pictures of these bulls soon...they are just coming home from pasture now.

Talk to you all soon.........hopefully !!!

Jen
